Trevor Stephenson Named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Michigan State track & field graduate student Trevor Stephenson has been named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Wednesday.Â
Stephenson highlighted MSU's performances at last week's Spartan Invitational, setting a school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.51m. His mark topped Paul Terek's previous record of 5.50m that had stood since 2002. Â
The Caledonia, Michigan native now owns both the indoor and outdoor pole vault records at MSU after setting the indoor record of 5.66m en route to a fourth place, First-Team All-American finish at last month's NCAA Indoor Championships. His finish marked the third All-American honor of his career.Â
Stephenson's 5.51m mark ranks first in the Big Ten this season and ties for sixth in the NCAA. Â
The Spartans head to Durham, North Carolina this weekend to compete in the Duke Invitational from Thursday, April 6 to Saturday, April 8.Â
