EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head softball coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley announced the addition of catcher Sierra Baldwin on Wednesday. Baldwin returns to Michigan after playing one season at North Carolina A&T.
"Sierra is a Michigan native that I am happy to welcome home," said McDonald-Kelley. "Sierra is an athlete that will add some needed depth at the catcher position. I love that she is hungry to compete and will bring a high softball IQ to our team."
In one season for the Aggies, Baldwin made 41 starts in 47 appearances while playing catcher, first base and outfield. Baldwin recorded 29 hits on 121 at-bats along with seven extra-base hits (six doubles and one home run). Her 17 runs scored and 14 RBI each ranked fourth on the team. Baldwin was the first Aggie to earn a Colonial Athletic Association weekly honor, earning Rookie of the Week on March 7, 2023.
Baldwin was recruited to North Carolina A&T by former Michigan State great Patti Raduenz prior to her departure from the program.
Prior to playing at North Carolina A&T, Baldwin attended Battle Creek High School and played club softball for Carolina Cardinals National. Before moving to Michigan, Baldwin played varsity baseball at Steinmetz College Prep in Chicago where she earned First Team All-Conference honors and served as a team captain. Baldwin also played baseball at Battle Creek where she earned All-City honors and was named to the All-Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference first team.
Baldwin is the 11th newcomer for the Spartans entering 2023-24, joining freshmen Payton Conroy, Jaeya Butler, Ava Mullen and Makayla Huddleston, and incoming transfers Alexis Ross, Olivia Grey, Mik Anthony, Kaelin Cash, Hannah Hawley and Star Ferguson.
