Jarvie, Riccardo, and Rutherford Named Preseason Big Ten Field Hockey Players to Watch

East Lansing, MI- Michigan State's Hannah Jarvie (Saline, Mich.), Celina Riccardo (Downingtown, Pa.), and Ellie Rutherford (Edinburgh, Scotland) named to the Preseason Big Ten Players to Watch, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Jarvie, a Michigan native, started 17 of the Spartans' 18 games at forward during the 2022 season. Jarvie tied for fourth on the team in goals (4) and total points (10), scoring two goals in a 5-2 win over UC Davis. Jarvie is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick and a member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.

During the 2022 season, Riccardo featured in and started all 18 games at midfield. She finished with a career-high 10 points on two goals and six assists (tied for second on the team), including two assists versus Maryland and Ball State. Riccardo has started all 67 career games for Michigan State and has been named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad twice. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Rutherford played in 17 games for the Green and White and made 17 starts at midfield in 2022, where she tied for third on the team with 10 points, registering four goals (tied fourth on the team). The Scotland native has appeared and started 36 career games for the Spartans. The junior is a two-time NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad member, NFCA Division I Scholar, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

The Spartans open the regular season on the road against Boston University on Friday, August 25^th at 12pm.
