EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the second consecutive year, Michigan State graduate senior wide receiver Tre Mosley has been named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, the premier award for community service in college football.
Earlier this summer, Mosley was named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Mosley has volunteered his time at several events in the community throughout his collegiate career, including instructing students at elementary schools, helping at coaching clinics, and delivering donations. He also led the Teams for Toys effort for football during the holidays, volunteered during Operation Teammate's military families visit to campus, and helped at the "Be the Match" bone marrow drive on campus in April.
The Pontiac, Michigan, native represented the program at the Black Student-Athlete Summit the last two years and participated in the Big Life Series trip to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama, in 2022.
An advertising management major, Mosley earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2021 and graduated with his bachelor's degree in December 2022. He was one of three players chosen to represent Michigan State at the Big Ten Media Days last month in Indianapolis.
On the field, Mosley has 98 receptions for 1,176 yards with eight touchdowns in 36 games, including 21 starts. He ranked third on the team last season in receptions (35), receiving yards (359) and touchdown catches (4).
Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world.
The formal announcement of the 2023 recipient is scheduled to be made during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN Dec. 7/8, and the presentation of the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy will take place on Feb. 17, 2024, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
