Women's Soccer Hosts 15th-Ranked Notre Dame Sunday on Big Ten Network

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State women's soccer hosts its first ranked opponent of the 2023 season in No. 15 Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
Sunday's game will broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network with live stats on MSUSpartans.com.
FIRST TOUCH
MSU enters Sunday's match at 4-1-0 after a convincing 6-0 win over in-state foe Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 31. Senior forward Mackenzie Anthony recorded her first career hat trick in the win over EMU and also added an assist for a seven-point night. Graduate defender Raegan Cox and freshmen Bella Najera and Sophia Piotrowski also added goals for their first collegiate scores.
Anthony's hat trick is the second by a Spartan this season, following junior forward Jordyn Wickes' three-goal performance against Northern Colorado on Aug. 24.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
Notre Dame is led by sixth-year head coach Nate Norman, who holds a 58-34-9 record during his time in South Bend. Sunday's game will be the first of the week for the Fighting Irish, who enter the match with a 2-0-2 record.
Notre Dame opened its season with a 2-2 draw against Milwuakee before wins over Ball State and Butler. The Fighting Irish most recently battled to a 2-2 draw against then-No. 10 Arkansas on Aug. 27.
2022 First-Team All-American and MAC Hermann semifinalist Eva Gaetino leads all scorers with with six points (3 goals) in 2023, while Kiki Van Zanten and Erin Hohnstein each have two assists this season.
Sunday marks the first away match for the Fighting Irish this season.
STORY OF THE SERIES
Thursday's match will be the 15th all-time between the two squads. Notre Dame holds a 12-2-0 edge in the series, including a 6-1-0 record in East Lansing. MSU and Notre Dame last met on Sept. 6, 2015, with Notre Dame earning a 2-0 win at DeMartin Stadium. Before that, the squads met in South Bend in the NCAA Tournament in 2005 (3-0 Notre Dame) and 2008 (1-0 Notre Dame). The Spartans' only wins in the series came in the first two meetings - Nov. 4, 1988, 3-0, at DeMartin, and Sept. 22, 1989, 3-0, in South Bend.
