
Spartans Start Season with Individual Victories, Ranked Doubles Title

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Men's Tennis opened the 2023-24 season with successful weekends from several individuals and duos at the Wake Forest Duals.
Also over the weekend in Columbia, S.C., grad-senior Ronald Hohmann III and sophomore Ozan Baris competed at the Gamecock Ranked against some of the nation's top competition, claiming the main draw doubles title with a 3-0 record. Baris finished the weekend 6-1 overall while Hohmann III went 5-2.
Hohmann III and Baris downed the No. 54 ranked doubles team in the nation in Theo Winegar/Michael Zheng of Columbia, 6-3 in the finals Sunday. Individually, the No. 25 ranked Baris claimed second behind the No. 15 Zheng in B-draw singles after having beat No. 93 Karl Poling of North Carolina in the second round. The No. 37 ranked Hohmann capped his weekend off with a thrilling 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over No. 59 Casey Hoole of South Carolina.
Back in the more northern of the two Carolinas, junior Max Sheldon posted a 5-1 overall record on the weekend. Senior Reed Crocker went 3-0 in doubles while sophomore David Saye went undefeated with two singles wins.
Next, Baris and Hohmann III will head to the Battle in the Bay in San Francisco, Calif. from Thursday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Sept. 24. Sheldon and grad-senior Sebastien Collard will compete at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wis. from Friday, Sept. 22 through Sunday.
