
Spartans Set for Road Test at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. -Â Michigan State women's soccer (4-2-0, 0-0-0 B1G)Â travels to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face NC State (1-2-2, 0-0-0 ACC)Â for its final road non-conference match of the season on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

FIRST TOUCH
The Spartans enter Thursday's match after splitting a pair of matches at home last week, topping Eastern Michigan, 6-0, on Aug. 31, before falling to then-No. 15 Notre Dame, 2-1, on Sept. 3. Senior forward Mackenzie Anthony recorded her first career hat trick in the win over EMU and also added an assist for a seven-point night. Graduate defender Raegan Cox and freshmen Bella Najera and Sophia Piotrowski also added goals for their first collegiate scores. Junior forward Jordyn Wickes scored the lone Spartan goal against Notre Dame, bringing her team-leading goal total to four in 2023.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
NC State is led by 11th-year head coach Tim Santoro, who holds an 84-91-25 record in Raleigh. The Wolfpack enter Thursday's match at 1-2-2 after dropping both of their contests on the road last week. NC State fell to Colorado, 2-1, on Aug. 31 before falling to Denver, 4-2, on Sept. 3.
Senior forwards Leyah Robinson-Hall (1 goal, 2 assists) and Alexis Strickland (2 goals) lead the Wolfpack in scoring in 2023, while Strickland also leads in goals. NC State also returns 2022 Third-Team All-ACC performer Jameese Joseph in 2023.
The Wolfpack advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, falling to UCF in the first round.
STORY OF THE SERIES
Thursday's match will be the first meeting between the two squads. MSU will face an ACC opponent for the second-straight match after playing Notre Dame on Sept. 3. The match will also mark the Spartans' fourth occasion playing a Power 5 opponent during its non-conference slate (Cincinnati, Colorado, Notre Dame) in 2023. Prior to 2023, MSU last faced an ACC opponent on Sept. 7, 2017, falling to Wake Forest at home.

The Spartans host Dayton for their final non-conference match of the season on Sunday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
