Opening statement…
I thought tonight was a good challenge for us. I thought the first half we were really tested early in the game. I loved our second half response to be able to make some changes and play better. This will be a good film for us to learn from, and we have to get ready to play Sunday.
Â
On the second half response and changes …
We challenged our players. Frankly, I think we played really soft. We were expecting the ball to be given to us. We told them we need to stop expecting stops and to learn to be quick on our feet. I didn't see purpose in that first half, and I thought we were trying to score off of one pass. If the game is played well you can't do that. I thought we learned some good lessons on what's required to play good basketball. Offensively we needed to move the ball and not only have one pass. I was proud of our team, and I thought during the second half we played harder but also smarter.
Â
On learning the highs and lows of this team…
I liked our response. I thought coming out of the second half we responded well. We have a lot to learn in the middle of frustration. How can we do the next best thing for our team? That got tested tonight, and I think that is an area of growth for our team. I think the first half we were making the same mistakes. To be able to identify that and adjust quicker will be a good lesson for us.
Â
On Juliann Woodard in the 4th quarter…
To score 16 points in six minutes is incredible. Credit to her, she works at it and gets in the gym a lot. To sit most of the game and go in and be ready shows her toughness. She goes in and she is ready to play. That was a really fun way to end it and I was really happy for her and our team.
Â
On conversation with Theryn (Hallock) after her 4th foul…
Well we play kids with fouls. I think it makes sense to not sit kids longer than they should be out. We trust her and it will be a good lesson. She just needs to stay down.
Â
On the difference in the second half…
We pressed with purpose. I thought their guards did a good job but 40 minutes is different then 20. A big emphasis was we weren't even getting in front of the ball. If we aren't doing what we need to do then we are just putting ourselves in a bad spot. Offensively we just needed to move the ball. We don't need a home run. We have a bunch of good players and a bunch of good kids who can make good decisions. I was proud of our kids for adjusting.
