• Saturday's game marked the 16th meeting between Michigan State and Rutgers, and MSU still leads the all-time series, 10-6 overall, including 8-3 in Big Ten play . . . MSU is now 5-4 against Rutgers in East Lansing.

• Michigan State recognized 18 seniors in a pregame ceremony Saturday on Senior Day (Brandon Baldwin, Khris Bogle, Nate Carter, D'Quan Douse, Montorie Foster Jr., Zach Gillespie, Angelo Grose, Cal Haladay, Maverick Hansen, Tyneil Hopper, Jonathan Kim, Kay'ron Lynch-Adams, Joseph Martinez, Tanner Miller, Luke Newman, Tommy Schuster, Jordan Turner, Ed Woods) . . . four of those seniors played more than 50 games wearing the Green & White and spent their entire collegiate careers in East Lansing: fifth-year senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. (54th game), fifth-year graduate linebacker Cal Haladay (53rd game), sixth-year graduate defensive tackle Maverick Hansen (53rd game) and fifth-year graduate defensive back Angelo Grose (52nd game).

• Graduate linebacker Cal Haladay made his 35th consecutive start Saturday, the longest active streak on the team and sole possession of the 12th-longest in school history . . . Haladay started in a total of 47 of his 53 career games played . . . Haladay posted six stops Saturday to finish the season with 58 tackles and ends his Spartan career with 365 career tackles, ranking tied for eighth on MSU's career tackles list and also eighth among active players in the FBS.

OFFENSE
• The Spartans scored on their first offensive possession for the seventh time this season out of the 12 games played and the second-straight game with a touchdown as part of the third overall time with the TD . . . Saturday marks MSU's first loss this season when scoring a touchdown on its opening possession and now 3-1 when doing so, after scoring TDs in the games against Maryland (9/7/24), Prairie View A&M (9/14/24) and Purdue (11/22/24) and winning all three previous times.

• Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles was 13-of-23 for 150 yards and one TD pass, marking his sixth straight game with at least one TD pass . . . Chiles ends his first season as a Spartan with 13 TD passes and 2,415 yards.

• Redshirt junior running back Nathan Carter scored a rushing TD for the second straight game with his 26-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter . . . he ended the game with seven carries for 47 yards, while adding three catches for 23 yards . . . Carter finishes the season with five rushing TDs and two receiving scores.

• Graduate running back Kay'ron Lynch-Adams rushed nine times for 69 yards, adding one catch for 2 yards . . . with the 69 yards, Lynch-Adams has rushed for 50+ yards in six of the 12 games this season . . . the one catch extended Lynch-Adams' stretch of at least one reception in the last six games as part of in eight of the 12 games this season.

• Junior tight end Jack Velling snared his first TD catch of the season with the 5-yard scoring catch from Chiles in the fourth quarter . . . Velling finished with five catches for 77 yards, leading the team in both catches and yards.

• Velling's five catches was one shy of his season and career-high of six receptions, done twice this season, last at Oregon (10/4/24) . . . the 77 yards tied his season-best from the Boston College game (9/21/24) for second-most of his career behind 83 yards vs. UCLA (10/14/23) while he was at Oregon State.

• Freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh had two catches for 13 yards, as he had at least one catch in all 11 games played (missed the Boston College game with an injury), and had at least two catches in the last 10 games played after one catch in the season-opener vs. Florida Atlantic (8/30/24), before his breakout game that started the multiple-reception streak with eight catches at Maryland (9/7/14) . . . Marsh finished with 41 catches for 649 yards on the season, both the most by a freshman in school history.
