Six Spartans Earn All-Big Ten Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Six Spartans have earned recognition from the Big Ten Conference for the 2024 season, led by sixth-year graduate kicker Jonathan Kim and redshirt sophomore punter Ryan Eckley, who both earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.
Sixth-year graduate defensive lineman Khris Bogle (media), redshirt junior defensive back Charles Brantley (coaches and media), fifth-year graduate offensive lineman Luke Newman (coaches and media) and fifth-year senior linebacker Jordan Turner (coaches and media) garnered honorable mention recognition. In addition, Turner was named the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
SPECIAL TEAMS
PK Gr.-6 Jonathan Kim (second team, coaches and media)
• Ranks tied for second in the Big Ten with 19 field goals, which tied for eighth most in an MSU single-season.
• Ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (19-of-21, .905), which ranks third best in an MSU single-season (minimum 10 attempts).
• Lou Groza Award semifinalist
• Burlsworth Trophy nominee
• Set a school record with six field goals against Iowa (42, 43, 36, 29, 55, 46 yards) on Oct. 19 to earn Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors; the six field goals are the most by any player in a single game in the FBS this season and rank tied for the most ever in a Big Ten Conference game.
• Also set a Big Ten modern-day record for a kicker with 20 points against Iowa (six field goals, two PATs).
• Made a game-winning 37-yard field goal with one second remaining to help MSU past Maryland, 27-24, on Sept. 7 in College Park. He also hit a 50-yarder as time expired in the first half.
• Honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media in 2023.
• Finished his two-year Spartan career 32-of-39 (.821) for field goals, including seven from 50-plus yards; his .821 field-goal percentage ranks No. 1 in MSU history (previous: Paul Edinger at .793, 46-of-58).
P R-So. Ryan Eckley (second team, coaches; third team, media)
• Ranks second in the Big Ten in punting average (47.9) and punts of 50-plus yards (20).
• Would tie for fourth in the FBS in punting average (47.9), but does not qualify for stat minimums (3.6 punts per game).
• The 47.9-yard punting average is tied for the fourth longest in MSU single-season history (Brandon Fields also with 47.9 average in 2004).
• Also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media last season when he ranked eighth in the FBS in 2023 with his 46.8-yard punting average, which is now the sixth-longest average in MSU single-season history; also earned Freshman All-America honors last season.
DEFENSE
LB Sr.-5 Jordan Turner (honorable mention, coaches and media)
• Ranks No. 4 in the Big Ten among linebackers (tied for No. 12 overall in Big Ten) with a career-high 10.5 tackles for loss (47 yards).
• Graded No. 1 linebacker in the Big Ten against the run by PFF (90.7); ranked No. 9 overall linebacker in Big Ten by PFF (74.2).
• Led team with 66 tackles and ranked second with three sacks.
• Also had two interceptions (vs. Ohio State and Purdue).
• Voted a co-captain by his teammates prior to the season and also was named the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
• Fifth-year senior transferred to MSU in January 2024 after playing four years (2020-23) at Wisconsin.
• Productive player had 201 tackles, 23.0 TFLs, eight sacks, five interceptions, four pass break-ups and two forced fumbles in 42 collegiate games, including 29 starts.
DB R-Jr. Charles Brantley (honorable mention, coaches and media)
• Led team in interceptions (3) and pass break-ups (7) despite playing in just nine games due to an injury.
• Started first nine games before leaving in the first half against Indiana (Nov. 2) with a season-ending injury; had a season-high two pass break-ups against the Hoosiers.
• Ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten in passes defended per game (10 total; 1.11 per game).
• Graded No. 8 overall cornerback in the Big Ten by PFF (78.5).
• Ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 101 interception return yards.
• Also recorded 27 tackles, including 1.5 TFLs.
• Set a school record for the longest defensive play in program history with his 100-yard interception return for a TD vs. Prairie View A&M on Sept. 14; was named the team's defensive player of the week for the second game in a row.
• Recorded an interception in the win at Maryland and was named the team's defensive player of the game against the Terrapins.
• Has played in 31 collegiate games, all at Michigan State, including 24 starts at cornerback; has 103 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 18 PBUs and five interceptions in his career.
DL Gr.-6 Khris Bogle (honorable mention, media)
• Led MSU with four sacks (30 yards), which tied a career high.
• Ranked second on the team with a career-high 7.5 tackles for loss (44 yards).
• Credited with 37 total tackles.
• Also led team with 16 total QB pressures (sacks, hits, hurries), according to PFF.
• Sixth-year graduate senior played in 61 collegiate games (35 at Florida from 2019-22; 26 at MSU from 2022-24) with 131 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks in his career.
OFFENSE
OL Luke Newman (honorable mention, coaches and media)
• Durable player led MSU with 739 offensive snaps while starting all 12 games at left guard.
• Graded No. 9 offensive guard in the Big Ten by PFF.
• Named Spartan Lineman of the Week vs. Prairie View A&M and Iowa.
• Graduate transfer from Holy Cross played one season (2024) at Michigan State; ended his collegiate career starting 49 consecutive games (37 at left tackle at Holy Cross; 12 at left guard at MSU).
