Michigan State Wins Third Straight Game, Beats Michigan, 73-63, to Complete Season Sweep

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Michigan State used a 10-0 run over the final seven minutes of the game and pulled away for a 73-63 win over Michigan on Saturday night at the Crisler Center.
Graduate guard Tyson Walker scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds, had three assists and three steals and graduate forward Malik Hall finished with 18 points, including 10 in the second half and four during the decisive run, and had four rebounds.
The Spartans received 23 points from its bench, with freshman forward Coen Carr scoring eight points, sophomore guard Tre Holloman chipping in six points and two assists, sophomore center Carson Cooper adding four points and seven rebounds and sophomore forward Jaxon Kohler finishing with three points and seven rebounds.

Michigan State, winners of its last three games and eight of its last 10, improves to 17-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big Ten Conference, while Michigan falls to 8-18 and 3-12 in league play.

- Michigan State led by two points at the break (39-37) and had a 61-56 lead midway through the second half before the Wolverines used a 7-2 run to tie the game at 63-all on a layup from Will Tschetter with 7:01 to play.
- That would be the last basket for UM as the Wolverines missed five-straight shots and had five turnovers as the Spartans pushed the lead to eight points, 71-63, over a span of 2:27.
- After missing two free throws with 6:41 to play, senior guard A.J. Hoggard broke the tie with a driving layup to give MSU the lead for good.
- Hall hit two free throws with 5:41 left, then followed with a baseline dunk (4:13) and junior guard Jaden Akins hit a fast break layup to push the margin to 71-63 with 3:38 left.
- Walker hit a pair of free throws with 31 seconds left to close out the scoring and complete the season sweep for the Spartans.
- The Spartans opened the second half with a 39-37 lead, but UM used an 11-4 run over the opened 3:15 to take a 48-43 lead on a layup from Olivier Nkamhoua.
- The Wolverines pushed their lead to 53-47 with 13:13 left on a three-point play from Jaelin Llewellyn, but MSU responded and tied the game at 56-all on a driving layup from Holloman at 11:28.
- That was part of a 14-3 run over 3:24 as the Spartans took a 61-56 lead on a 3-pointer from Akins with 9:41 left to play.
- Michigan had taken the early lead in the first half before MSU tied the game at 16-all on a driving layup from Hall at 10:51.
- The Spartans took a 22-18 lead on an Akins layup and leading 24-22, MSU used a 7-0 burst to take a 31-22 on a fast-break dunk from Carr with 4:21 left.
- Walker fed Carr for an alley-oop with 2:03 left making it 35-29, but the Wolverines used an 8-0 run to take a 37-35 lead with 40 seconds left on a 3-pointer from Llewellyn.
- Free throws from Holloman and two more from senior guard Davis Smith with 0.4 seconds left gave MSU the 39-37 lead at the break.
- Michigan State limited Michigan to 26 points in the second half, including none in the final 7:01 of the game.
