BELLEVILLE, Mich. - In the second competition and lone dual regatta of the season, Michigan State battled with the ninth-ranked University of Michigan on Belleville Lake.
"The team did a really good job today, on and off the water," first year head coach Stacey Rippetoe said. "We had another week of really great growth and competition. At home, we're looking forward to the next two weeks of training and we're excited to keep building."
Six of the seven Spartan boats finished second overall. The first varsity eight finished in under seven minutes for the second time in as many races this season.
It was the second varsity four lineup, fresh off a silver medal at the season-opening Sunshine State Invite on Saturday, March 30, that once again put together a near-winning performance.
The 2V4 boat, named Grand Legacy, finished five seconds – a boat's length - out of first place, crossing the finish in 7:47.3.
In two week's time MSU will next travel back to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. for the Big Ten Invitational with preliminaries on Friday, April 19 and finals on Saturday, April 20.
