EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the second time this season, senior Liv Grey was named B1G Pitcher of the Week as announced by the Big Ten Conference office on Monday afternoon. Grey is the third Spartan pitcher to ever earn two B1G weekly honors in the same year and is the first since 2003 (Jessica Beech, 2003; Erica Strutz, 1999).
It's Michigan State's fourth weekly award of the season, tying for the second-most in program history (1999 – Four; 2003 – Five).
Last week Grey finished her career strong going 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP, while holding opponents to a .115 batting average against. In 15.1 innings of work Grey struck out 24 batters.
Grey's week started on Tuesday night when she tossed 4.0 shutout innings and struck out eight in MSU's 11-0 victory over Oakland.
With Michigan State needing to take all three games against Purdue over the weekend to have a chance at making the B1G Tournament, Grey pitched her first complete game shutout of the season in MSU's 3-0 game one victory, allowing just three hits and striking out nine Boilermaker batters.
In game two, Grey combined with junior Madison Taylor to complete a 1-0 shutout as Grey picked up her first save of the year with a pair of seventh inning strikeouts. The Woodland, Wash. native finished her career with 3.1 innings of one-hit, five strikeout pitching in Michigan State's 2-1 series sweeping game three win over Purdue. Michigan State's sweep over Purdue was its first B1G series sweep since 2018.
Nebraska's Sydney Gray earned B1G Player of the Week and Northwestern's Emma Raye was tabbed the B1G Freshman of the Week.
