"It was a pretty exciting day for me being able to follow one of your players who shoots a personal best and 64 is a great number so a really fun day," MSU Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "Then watching the scores as everyone else on the team was playing well. Taylor (Kehoe) had a three under par, it was a good day, we beat some really good teams that we are happy to beat and just a springboard for what is coming up next which is the UNC tournament."
Senior Caitlyn Macnab of Ole Miss was the individual champion, finishing at 12-under par 204 (63-73-68), a tournament record. Macnab set a tournament and a Forest Akers West Course record in Sunday's first round with a 9-under par 63.
Biermann challenged that mark in the third round. Starting on the fourth hole, she parred the first four before birdies on the par-5, 495-yard eighth hole and the par-3, 184-yard ninth hole. That was the first of three-straight birdies and five in six-hole span. Biermann birdied the par-4, 372-yard third hole and fell just one shy of the lead.
She finished the third round with 8 birdies and an 8-under par 64, a personal best, the second-best 18-hole score in the history of the Mary Fossum Invitational and tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in MSU history. Biermann led the Spartans, finishing in second place at 11-under par 205. Her score of 205 was a personal best, the second-best score in tournament history and tied for the third-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
"If you can imagine, it's pretty good," Biermann said of shooting 64. "It was a pretty solid round, bogey free and birdies. I didn't start off too great. I missed three of the first four holes with my iron so I had to get up and down and work hard to get pars there. After that it was pretty smooth sailing and being confident."
Biermann was one three players to finish among the top-10 overall, joined by senior Katie Lu and junior Taylor Kehoe, who both tied for ninth place at 2-over par 218.
Lu shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round for her 218 (74-71-73), while Kehoe fired a 3-under par 69, with four birdies in her final eight, finishing at 218 (75-74-69).
Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia shot a 7-over par 223 (73-75-75), with a 3-over par 75 on Tuesday, and junior Paula Balanzategui shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round and tied for 31st place at 8-over par 224.
Four Spartans played as individuals, with freshman Catalina Monroy tying for 15th place at 4-over par 220 (71-76-73).
