GAME NOTES
• Michigan State improved to 1-0 in Big Ten action and 2-0 overall.

• First-year Spartan head coach Jonathan Smith becomes only the second MSU head coach to win his Big Ten debut in his first season, joining John L. Smith in 2003 (vs. Iowa) . . . Hall of Fame Coach Biggie Munn won his first Big Ten game vs. Iowa in MSU's first season in the Big Ten in 1953, which came in Munn's seventh season overall.

• Saturday was the 15th all-time meeting between Michigan State and Maryland, with MSU now leading the all-time series, 11-4, including 4-2 in College Park . . . the Spartans have won five of the last seven meetings and moved to 7-3 against the Terrapins as Big Ten opponents as Maryland joined the conference in 2014.

OFFENSE
• Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles was 24-for-38 passing for 363 yards and three TDs, all new career highs . . . the 363 yards passing was MSU's top single game performance against Maryland, bettering the 342 by Brian Lewerke in 2019, and the only two 300-yard passing outings against the Terps . . . Chiles was 13-of-23 for 154 yards with two TDs in the first half and 11-of-16 for 209 yards with one TD in the second half . . . the 363 passing yards were the eighth most by a Spartan quarterback in school history and the most since Brian Lewerke threw for 400 yards in a win over Penn State in 2017.

• The 9-yard TD pass in the first quarter from Chiles to senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. was Chiles' first TD pass of his Spartan career, after rushing for his first score last week against Florida Atlantic.

• Chiles' 34-yard TD pass in the second quarter was temporarily the longest scoring pass of his collegiate career, topping the previous long of 28-yards while at Oregon State in 2023 vs. Stanford, before his 77-yard scoring play to Nick Marsh in the fourth quarter . . . Saturday's three TD outing was also Chiles' first career game with multiple TD passes.

• Freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh snared eight catches for 194 yards, including a 77-yard TD catch from Chiles in the fourth quarter, in just his second collegiate game . . . the 194 receiving yards was not only the best MSU single-game receiving total against Maryland, but only the second 100-yard receiving outing against the Terps, topping the previous top mark of 114 yards by Jayden Reed on eight catches in 2021 . . . it was also the 10th most receiving yards in a single game by a Spartan, and the second most by a true freshman (Ricky White with 196 vs. Michigan in 2020).

• Marsh's 77-yard TD catch was one of two 50+ yard receptions on the day, both coming in the fourth quarter, adding a 57-yard catch on MSU's first possession of the quarter, after one catch for 11 yards last week in his Spartan and collegiate debut.

• Foster's 9-yard TD catch in the first quarter was his first TD reception of the season and sixth of his career . . . it was also Foster's first catch of the game, which extends his streak of at least one reception to 15-straight games and in 25 of his last 37 career games.

• Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jaron Glover snared his first career TD with his 34-yard scoring catch in the second quarter . . . two of Glover's three longest receptions have now come against Maryland, as the 34-yarder was the new longest of his career, topping his previous long of 33-yards, done twice previously, vs. Central Michigan (9/1/23) and also last year vs. Maryland (9/23/23).

• Glover finished with career highs for both catches and yards, with six receptions, topping his previous career-high of three catches vs. Central Michigan (9/1/23), and the 84 yards for the game bettering his previous career-high of 75 yards in the game against CMU, nearly topping it in the first half alone with 65 yards at halftime.

• Junior running back Nathan Carter had team-highs of 11 carries for 59 yards for his second straight game with double-digit carries and 13th as a Spartan in 14 games for the Green & White . . . the 59 yards was Carter's eighth game as a Spartan with 50+ yards and 15th career game doing so.

DEFENSE
• The Spartan defense snared their third interception of the season with redshirt junior defensive back Charles Brantley's interception in the fourth quarter.

• Senior linebacker Jordan Turner matched his jersey number with a team-high seven tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss, both season-highs and Spartan career bests for Turner, who transferred from Wisconsin . . . Saturday was Turner's second career game with seven stops against Maryland, as he finishes unbeaten against the Terps in his collegiate career, helping Wisconsin to a 23-10 win over Maryland on Nov. 6, 2022 . . . it was Turner's fourth career game with multiple TFLs and tied the second most of his career, matching 2.0 vs. Illinois State in 2022 while at Wisconsin, and behind his overall career-high of 3.0 vs. Indiana last season at Wisconsin.

• Fellow senior linebacker Cal Haladay added six stops, including a tackle on the game's final play, securing the Victory for MSU . . . Haladay moved into 16th place all-time at MSU with 318 career tackles, passing Carlos Jenkins.

• Redshirt junior linebacker Wayne Matthews III, who is from Largo, Maryland, also tallied six stops . . . Matthews served as the team's game captain against Maryland.

• Graduate defensive lineman Khris Bogle registered a sack for the second straight game after 1.5 sacks last week vs. FAU . . . it was Bogle's first back-to-back games with a full 1.0 sack, as he had consecutive games with 0.5 sack while playing Florida in 2020 . . . Bogle now has 5.0 sacks during his MSU career and 13.0 overall sacks in his collegiate career.

• Redshirt junior defensive back Charles Brantley snared his first interception of the season and third of his career with a pick in the fourth quarter . . . it was Brantley's first INT since Oct. 8, 2022, vs. Ohio State . . . it was also MSU's third interception of the season.

• Graduate placekicker Jonathan Kim split the uprights from 37-yards out with :01 left in the game for the game-winning score . . . it was Kim's second made field goal to end the half, as he made a field goal from 50-yards out right before halftime for his first field goal of the season . . . it was Kim's fifth FG of 50+ yards, with three of the five coming on the road (58-yarder at Iowa (9/30/23); 53-yarder at Ohio State (11/11/23) and Saturday's 50-yarder at Maryland) . . . Kim's home field goals were 52-yards vs. Richmond (9/9/23) and 50-yards vs. Nebraska (11/4/23) . . . Saturday's two field goals marked Kim's fourth game with multiple field goals, and the first since making 2-of-2 last season against Nebraska (11/4/23).

• Redshirt sophomore punter Ryan Eckley's 61-yard punt in the third quarter was a season long and his fifth career punt of 60+ yards . . . Eckley added a 51-yarder in the fourth quarter and now has four punts of 50+ yards this season . . . Eckley finished with three punts for a 51.3 ypp average, the second-highest single-game average of his career . . . it also marks his third career game averaging over 50.0 yards, all coming in his last four games played after a 51.0 ypp average vs. Indiana last season and a 54.0 ypp average vs. Penn State in last year's season finale.
