STATISTICS OF NOTE
PERIOD RECAPS
First Period: Just eight seconds into the Spartans' first power play of the night, Matt Basgall put MSU up 1-0. Charlie Stramel won the faceoff back to Isaac Howard, an Basgall moved into the high slot as Howard fed him the puck from the half-wall. Basgall one-timed it for his fourth goal of the season. The Wolverines had two power play chances, but the Spartans limited their guests to just one shot on goal in each – and at the end of the second had a great rush on which Logan Stein was forced to make two big saves on Tommi Männistö and Tiernan Shoudy to keep it a one-goal game. With time winding down in the period, the Spartans doubled their lead as Charlie Stramel forced home a rebound of an Owen West shot for his seventh goal and a 2-0 Spartan lead.
Second Period: The second period was all MSU as well. Michigan picked up its offense to put 19 shots on goal, but Trey Augustine was up to the task and frustrated the visitors, as the period also featured three UM penalties, including one for roughing the goaltender. MSU potted its second power play goal at 5:43, as Shane Vansaghi tipped a Joey Larson shot from the left point for his third goal of the season. On the Spartans' one penalty kill of the period, MSU defenseman Austin Oravetz sent a beautiful stretch pass ahead for Howard, who streaked into the offensive zone up the right side. He dished it to Stramel on the 2-on-1 break in the perfect spot for a one-timer, and Stramel scored his second of the night. The Wolverines had 19 shots in the period after just five in the opening frame, but Augustine turned them all aside. Stein made 13 saves after 13 in the opening frame.
Third Period: The Wolverines pressed for a goal to break up the shutout, and finally got one on a tip by TJ Hughes at 18:50 of the third period. Augustine had stopped all 34 of the shots he faced previously but Hughes' tip of a Evan Werner shot in front eluded the goalie for Hughes' ninth goal of the season. The visitors took six penalties in the final frame (34 minutes), including two five-minute majors and a disqualification for defenseman Hunter Hady as the game concluded.

We're still thinking about this shorty from earlier. The pass from Oravetz to Howard, and the dish for the one-timer by Stramel. pic.twitter.com/TnOxNURtZO
