East Lansing, Mich. – No. 16 Michigan State used a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the opening half to post a 2-0 victory over Indiana on Thursday night in East Lansing. Juniors Kayla Briggs and Ella Janz had the Spartan scores, and freshman keeper Noelle Henning made four saves.
The Spartans, who had their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped in their last outing, returned to the win column and improve to 8-3-5 (5-1-3 B1G) with two regular-season games to play. IU falls to 4-5-6, 1-3-5 in Conference play.
MSU's offensive flow improved as the first half wore on, and started to generate more offensive looks in the final 10 minutes. Briggs broke up the scoreless tie in the 41st minute, taking advantage of a deflected ball and making her shot find its mark. Janz followed suit with just over 40 seconds remaining in the frame, as she took a pass from Shelby Vaughn, went to net, and split three defenders to score her first of the year.
MSU tacked on four shots in the second half after posting seven in the opening period, and IU had two shots after just three in the first half. Each team had two corners.
IU started keeper Dani Jacobson, who made one save in the first half. Sally Rainey came in for the second half and made three stops.
