Mannisto Named B1G First Star of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior forward Tommi Mannisto has been named the Big Ten's First Star of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. It's the first B1G weekly honor of Mannisto's career.

Mannisto's five-point weekend aided the Spartans in a road sweep of Northern Michigan by scores of 4-0 and 6-2. He tied for the conference lead in points and goals last week, matching teammate senior Tiernan Shoudy in points.

On Saturday, Mannisto scored two first period goals for Michigan State to increase his team-leading goal tally to five on the season. He later assisted on both of Shoudy's goals in the third period of game two, first preventing an icing call by racing down the ice and beating an NMU player to the puck before passing it back to the trailing Shoudy who scored his first of the season.

In addition to his scoring Mannisto was also a key component of MSU's penalty kill that went 13-for-14 in successful kills last weekend.
