
Spartan Women’s Tennis Tangles With JMU and Liberty On Road This Weekend

MSU heads to Virginia for pair of non-conference contests.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis returns to spring action on the road, with a weekend of matches against James Madison on Saturday Feb. 15 and Liberty on Sunday Feb 16. in Lynchburg, Va.
The Spartans currently hold a four-game winning streak and hope to prevail in their matches on the road, facing JMU in a neutral court match on Saturday and playing at Liberty on Sunday. Previously, the Green & White hosted Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan in one of their two Sunday doubleheaders of the season, sweeping the in-state competition 4-1 (WMU) and 4-0 (EMU).
Series History versus James Madison
The Green & White face off against JMU on Saturday, Feb 15 at 1 p.m. EST in a neutral-territory faceoff at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. The last time the two teams met was 2022, also in a neutral territory match, with the Spartans unable to nab a victory, JMU securing the match 4-1.
Prior to then, the last time the teams met was 1984, where JMU came out victorious against MSU.
Looking forward the Spartans aim to slate their first win against James Madison and continue their winning streak.

The Dukes opened their season with a trialing slate of three games on the road against some of ITA's highly ranked teams, Duke, UNC and Virginia, dropping all three matches against their talented opponents.
Following these games, JMU continued their stand on the road, ending with a record of 0-7 going into this weekend.
The Dukes face Liberty on Friday, Feb. 14, giving them a chance to secure a match before challenging Michigan State.
Series History versus Liberty
Since 2000, the Spartans and Eagles have only met once, with MSU hosting Liberty during the 2022-23 season, faltering 2-4.
Junior Issey Purser aided in securing one of two points for the Green & White in this match, finishing strong in a doubles match with MSU graduate Dagmar Zdrubecka 7-6 (9-7).
On the road play concludes on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at Liberty, with the Spartans hoping to hitch another win.
Scouting Liberty
Liberty began their season with a doubleheader at home against Elon and Longwood, only being able to obtain one win in their contest versus Longwood, 4-0, while closely faltering to Elon, 4-3.
The Eagles attained a split record since then, going 3-3 in their contests leading up to their match against the Spartans on Sunday.

The Spartans return home for their second and final doubleheader of the season, facing off against Youngstown State and Ball State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 23 starting at 10 a.m.
