
Max Sheldon Grabs Second Big Ten Player of the Week Accolade this Season

MSU men’s tennis senior added another Big Ten Player of the Week Accolade for the Spartans.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis senior Max Sheldon earns his second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the season.Â
Max Sheldon earned Player of the Week honors after an outstanding performance, going undefeated in singles play and securing crucial victories for the Spartans.Â
He and his brother, freshman Mitchell Sheldon, helped MSU take an early lead against Arizona by rallying from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Cabrera and Christensen in doubles. In the Spartans' upset win over Arizona, he evened the score with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win against Filip Gustafsson.Â
In singles, Max delivered the Spartans' first win against Wisconsin, controlling the match for a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Thomas Zlatohlavek.Â
The Sheldon brothers continued their dominance in doubles, earning a commanding 6-3 win over Bilicic and Shepp from Nebraska. Â Ma. Sheldon then battled through a tough singles match against Nebraska's Nikolay Sysoev, securing his second win of the day with a clutch 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Capping off an incredible weekend, Sheldon finished a perfect 3-0 in singles play, solidifying his well-deserved recognition as Player of the Week.
Sheldon is joined by three fellow Spartans, junior Ozan Baris, redshirt-sophomore Aristotelis Thanos, and freshman Danial Rakhmatullayev.Â
Sheldon first earned the conference's first honor of the season on Sept. 25, while junior Ozan Baris collected the accolade on Oct. 16, Rakhmatullayev picked up the award on Oct. 30. MSU's spring season award collection started on Jan. 22 when sophomore Aristotelis Thanos earned the Spartans' previous award.
Freshman Matthew Forbes earned the program and his first B1G Freshman of the Week award back on February 5, 2025.Â
