Three Spartan Women’s Basketball Players Capture CSC Academic All-District Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior women's basketball players Theryn Hallock, Emma Shumate and Grace VanSlooten were named Academic All-District®, as selected by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Hallock, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, had a stellar season on the court, earning honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades. The guard ended the season third on the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. She played all 32 games, starting 28.
In the classroom, Hallock, who is majoring in advertising management, has a 3.50 GPA.
Shumate, who hails from Dresden, Ohio, is in her first season at Michigan State after transferring from Ohio State. The guard played in all 32 games, starting seven. She was third on the team in 3-point field goals with 44 made treys.
In the classroom, Shumate, who is majoring in environmental economics, has a 3.91 GPA.
VanSlooten, a native of Toledo, Ohio, had a breakout first season at MSU after transferring from Oregon. She earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, finishing the season first on the team, averaging 15.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
In the classroom, VanSlooten, who is majoring in communication, has a 3.65 GPA.
Last season, guard Abbey Kimball was the first Spartan to earn the honor since Matilda Ekh and Isaline Alexander were both honored with all-district honors during the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, the last Spartan to earn academic all-district honors was Allyssa DeHaan in 2008-09.
Michigan State ended the season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 22-10 overall record. Head coach Robyn Fralick is the first Spartan womens basketball coach to reach the NCAA Tournament in her first two seasons.
