
Spartan Distance Runners Head South to the Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – This weekend, the Michigan State distance squad heads to Raleigh, North Carolina, to compete at North Carolina State in the Raleigh Relays on March 27-29.. Â
Action on the track begins Thursday, March 27, at 4:15 p.m. with the men's 1,500m and will conclude for the Spartans on Saturday, March 29, at 12:40 p.m. with the women's 800m. Â
Thursday starts with eight Spartans participating in the men's 1500-meter. Timothy Cherry, who set an early personal best (4:02.82) at the Meyo Invite during indoor season, is among those looking for a strong start to the season. Thursday also features seven athletes in the 5,000m and the day concludes with the men's 10,000m run. Andrew Lane is aiming for another personal best, after setting one in the 10k at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships the previous year. Lane set one personal best during indoor and is looking for some more, as he concludes his senior year. Â
The women's distance crew takes to the track beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Friday with the 1,500m. Rachel Forsyth is one of the seven Spartans competing in this event, aiming for another strong performance after running the mile in 4:34.02 at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Shortly after the 1,500-meter, four Spartans will race in the 5,000m at 6:00 p.m. Among them is senior Judith Rector, looking to start her senior year outdoor track season strong. Action ends for the Spartans at 9:20 p.m. with the 10,000m.Â
The final day of action for both Spartan teams will kick off at 12:40 p.m. with the women's 800-meter and conclude at 4:05 p.m. with the men's 800-meter.Â
