MSU improves to 10-16 (2-6 B1G) while handing the Wolverines their first conference loss at 25-9 (4-1 B1G).
Senior Faith Guidry started in the circle for the Spartans allowing two earned runs in the first before being relieved by fellow senior Madison Taylor (1-2). Taylor pitched well in relief for MSU, holding the Wolverines in check for four innings before running into trouble in the sixth. The Fortville, Indiana native went 4.2 innings, striking out two and allowing one earned run on four hits.
Freshman Carsyn Cassady entered from the bullpen with two Wolverines on base in the sixth and none gone, retiring three-straight to get out of a crucial jam. Cassady allowed just one hit over the final 2.0 innings to earn her first career save.
Juniors Britain Beshears and Kaelin Cash homered for the Spartans in game one as Cash joined sophomore Hannah Greer with a two-hit effort. Greer doubled and drove in one for the Spartans. Beshears led the team with two RBI on her two-run shot.
Michigan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first frame scoring runs on a single and a bases loaded walk. Taylor settled things down in the circle for the Spartans striking out the final batter of the inning to strand the bases loaded.
The score held at 2-0 until the fourth when Cash lead-off the frame with her third home run of the season.

Michigan State took its first lead of the contest in the sixth. After junior Hannah Hawley reached on an error, Beshears sent a ball over the fence in left field to give MSU a 3-2 edge. Greer later drove in pinch-running freshman Hannah Herman on a double into the gap in left center to provide the Spartans with a 4-2 lead.

Michigan got one run back in the sixth, scoring one on a single through the 4-3 hole after the lead-off batter doubled. The Wolverines had two runners on base when Cassady entered in relief of Taylor, but Cassady successfully avoided more damage by retiring three-straight on balls that never left the infield.
Cassady induced three ground outs in the seventh to pick up her first career save and give Michigan State its first win over the Wolverines in seven years.
