
Spartan Women’s Tennis Set For Saturday Showdown At Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 64 Michigan State women's tennis wraps up their regular season with a road trip across the state to Ann Arbor, Mich. to compete against No. 3 Michigan on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
The Spartans have had a successful season, earning a 13-10 overall record and a 5-7 Big Ten Conference record.
Following their final homestand, the Spartans split their series against No. 17 Washington and Oregon, going 1-1, dropping their Saturday match against Washington but securing their match on Sunday against Oregon.
Along with facing their in-state rival Wolverines, the Spartans are battling for a spot in next week's Big Ten Tournament.
Series History Versus Michigan
Michigan has been a difficult opponent that the Spartans have faced time and time again, with the Wolverines taking most of their matches against the Green & White.
The rivalry first met in the 2001-02 season, where the two teams faced off in East Lansing, and Michigan State secured the match in a 4-3 victory.
Since then, the competition has been fierce, as both teams hold a highly competitive team every season.
Scouting Michigan
Michigan has been ranked by ITA within the Top 10 all season, currently standing at No. 3.
Along with the team rankings, UM has four singles players also ranked within the top 100.
Julia Fliegner currently stands at No. 3 overall, Piper Charney at No. 34, Lily Jones at No. 40 and Emily Sartz-Lunde at No. 80.
Michigan has also slated three ranked doubles pairings, with Jessica Bernales/Lily Jones at No. 27, Piper Charney/Jessica Bernales at No. 29 and Reece Miller/Julia Fliegner at No. 69.
Overall, the Wolverines earned a 20-3 record, going 12-0 in Big Ten contests and currently slating a 14-match win-streak.
The Spartans have their work cut out for them against this talented team, and will have to prove themselves in Ann Arbor.
