Six Spartans Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Six Michigan State Spartans – Ru'Quan Buckley, Nathan Carter, Sam Edwards, Maverick Hansen, Tommy Schuster and Darius Snow – have been named to the 2025 Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation, tying a school record.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the prestigious NFF Hampshire Honor Society must meet one of the following criteria:
· Be a senior player graduating this spring/summer who completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2024; or
· Be a graduated player or grad transfer who has already earned a bachelor's degree and competed in the 2024 season (even if the player has remaining eligibility and may return to play next season).
And must have:
· Attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale); and
· Been starters or contributors throughout the 2024 season.
Michigan State also placed six players on the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2019.
Three of the players – Buckley, Edwards and Snow – will return for the Spartans in 2025. Buckley was a graduate transfer from Nebraska in 2024, while Edwards and Snow have both graduated from Michigan State.
For the third consecutive year, Edwards earned the team's Scholar-Athlete Award at the annual Spartan Excellence Academic Gala earlier this month. The Williamston, Michigan, native garnered Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive season in 2024 and was on the final ballot for the Academic All-America Team. He graduated with a double major in political theory and constitutional democracy / international relations in May 2024, finished his minor in political economy in December 2024, and started a master's program in marketing research in the 2025 spring semester. He also garnered Academic All-Big Ten honors for the fourth year in a row.
Snow graduated with his bachelor's degree in graphic design in May 2023 and a master's degree in strategic communication in December 2024. He was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team for the fourth year in a row and picked up Academic All-District honors for the second time in his career in 2024.
Carter graduated from Michigan State in December 2024 with a degree in human development and family studies and earned Academic All-Big Ten and Academic All-District honors last season.
Hansen was an academic standout throughout his six-year Spartan career as he earned his degree in hospitality business. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors five times, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades four times, and was a two-time Academic All-District honoree. In addition, he was a two-time semifinalist for the NFF Campbell Trophy.
Schuster earned his bachelor's degree in supply chain management from North Dakota before transferring to Michigan State in 2024.
