Grace VanSlooten and Team USA Capture Gold at the FIBA AmeriCup

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State forward Grace VanSlooten and Team USA came-from-behind to defeat Brazil, 92-84, on Sunday night in Santiago, Chile, to win the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup.
With the win, USA clinched a berth at the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup in Berlin. The victory marked the fifth FIBA AmeriCup title in program history, and Team USA has now won three of the last four Women's AmeriCup titles. Team USA moves to 4-6 against Brazil and 42-9 all-time at the AmeriCup.Â
In the gold medal game, VanSlooten scored eight points with four rebounds off the bench. She ended the game with a +19 plus/minus, which was the best on the team. VanSlooten played in every game of the tournament, scoring a tournament-high 12 points against Mexico in the group phase.
The USA trailed Brazil, 69-67, with 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter to play in the gold medal game, before going on a 9-0 run over the next 2+ minutes to take a 76-69 lead, punctuated by a layup by Joyce Edwards. The United States would go on to lead by 10 in the period. The U.S. bench showed their depth, outscoring Brazil's reserves, 35–1.
This is the third gold medal for VanSlooten with Team USA. Prior to coming to Michigan State, she also won gold medals with the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup team and the 2022 FIBA Women's U18 Americas Championship.
