EAST LANSING, Mich. - Ahead of the start of practice on Tuesday, Michigan State head men's soccer coach Damon Rensing announced the three captains for the 2025 season in Zac Kelly, Josh Adam and Will Eby.
"The 2025 team is in good hands with Josh, Zac, and Will as their captains," Rensing said. "These three possess all the qualities we look for in a captain at MSU soccer. Off the field, they are very good students and represent MSU soccer and MSU athletics with character and class. In training, they are some of our hardest workers. On the field, they are very good communicators and demand high standards for our team. They have also played in big games for MSU Soccer. I am happy for them and the team!"
Kelly, a redshirt senior, is the Big Ten's reigning Goalkeeper of the Year. He was the first Spartan to earn B1G Goalkeeper of the Year honors since Jimmy Hague in 2017. Kelly was the sixth Spartan player to earn Player of the Year honors with the last being Giuseppe Barone, who won Midfielder of the Year accolades in 2018. The Holt, Michigan native Kelly started all 17 games for MSU last season, earning seven shutouts.
Adam is a redshirt senior defender has been a mainstay of the Spartan backline for the last three seasons. The Brighton, Michigan native has played in 43 games in the last three seasons. He has logged in over 3,800 minutes as a Spartan, helping MSU earn seven clean sheets last season. He has been a vocal leader on and off the pitch.
Eby is a junior defender for Michigan State. He has started every game in which he has played over the last two seasons. The Northville, Michigan native has scored three goals in his Spartan career. He earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman team during the 2023 season.
Spartan fans will have their first opportunity to see MSU in action on Sunday, Aug. 10 in an exhibition against Butler at 2 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
