Murcia Finishes Third, MSU Women’s Golf Takes Fourth at the Windy City Classic

East Lansing, Mich. – Junior Ana Sofia Murcia finished in third place individually and Michigan State's women's golf tied for fourth place among 11 teams at the Windy City Classic, played at the Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Ill.
The Spartans entered the final round in third place and shot a 2-over par 290 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for fourth place at 5-under par 869 (288-281-290).
Duke and Northwestern tied for first place at 13-under par 851, with SMU in third place at 6-under par 858. Michigan State tied for fourth place with UCLA and Iowa State.
Murcia led the Spartans from start to finish with her best career performance. Her third-place finish was the best of her career and her 6-under par 210 (68-71-71) was the best 54-hole score of her career and she tied her personal best round with a 4-under par 68 in Monday's first round.
Sophomore Grace Vetter tied for 22nd place at 1-over par 217 (76-69-72), closing with an even-par 72 on Tuesday.
Senior Paula Balanzategui tied for 28th place at 3-over par 219 (74-72-73), finishing with a 1-over par 73 in the third round.
Senior Taylor Kehoe shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round and tied for 40th place at 6-over par 222 (70-78-74).
Freshman Lucia Valderrama, who fired a 3-under par 69 in the afternoon round on Monday, closed with an 8-over par 80 and tied for 50th place at 9-over par 225 (76-69-80).
Michigan State's next event is the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, being held at the historic St. Andrews course in Scotland, from Monday, Oct. 13 to Wednesday, Oct. 15. Live coverage will air on The Golf Channel.
