Spartans will now open action Thursday afternoon after a schedule change.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 24 Michigan State men's tennis continues its road action this week, traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend hosted by South Carolina. The weekend's action has been moved up, and matches will now be played on Thursday and Friday due to inclement weather in the weekend forecast for the Columbia, South Carolina area.
Instead of playing Saturday and Sunday, the 24th-ranked Spartans will now open action by facing Harvard on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., before facing either Clemson or ranked South Carolina in the second match on Friday, Jan. 23. South Carolina is No. 14 in this week's rankings, while Clemson is among others receiving votes. Thursday's winners will square off against each other, while Thursday's two losing teams will play in the other match.

The 18th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend takes place this weekend at various facilities across the country, featuring 56 teams. The weekend's 14 winning teams will qualify for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Feb. 13-17, played in both Dallas and Waco, Texas, co-hosted by SMU and Baylor.
The Spartans enter the weekend aiming to turn a tough road test at Kentucky into momentum as they continue play in Columbia. MSU slid from No. 20 to No. 24 in this week's ITA Team Rankings, released Wednesday morning, after last weekend's hard-fought 5-2 loss at Kentucky.
Sophomore Matthew Forbes opened his spring campaign by going undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend at Kentucky. Forbes has set the tone early and looks to build on his momentum during Thursday's matchup.
