This Week In Spartan Athletics – January 27
Here's a look at the week ahead (January 27-Feb 2) for Michigan State Athletics:
Men's Basketball
No. 7 Michigan State opens the week with a Tuesday night contest at Rutgers (FS1). It's the Spartans' first trip to Piscataway since 2022. Friday, MSU will host No. 3 Michigan at 8 p.m (FOX). This will mark the first meeting with both teams in the Top 10 since 2019.
Women's Basketball
No. 13 Michigan State travels to Purdue for a Thursday night contest on BTN (6 p.m.). Sunday, the Spartans will host No. 9 Michigan at Noon on FS1. This will be the first ever meeting with both teams ranked in the Top 15, and just the second with both teams ranked.
Hockey
No. 2 Michigan State travels to No. 5 Penn State for a pivotal Big Ten series. The Nittany Lions are tied for the Big Ten lead, while the Spartans sit just one point behind the co-leaders. Friday night's contest starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, MSU and PSU will play outdoors at Beaver Stadium.
Gymnastics
Fresh off its best score of the season, No. 15 Michigan State travels to Ann Arbor to face No. 10 Michigan Sunday at 4 p.m. on Big Ten Network. The Spartans rank No. 10 nationally on the beam and No. 12 on the vault.
Track & Field
Members of the Michigan State indoor track & field squad will travel to different locations this weekend. Spartans will compete at both the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville and the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend. Both meets run Friday and Saturday.
Women's Tennis
Michigan State plays host to Western Michigan (10 a.m.) and Eastern Michigan (2 p.m.) on Sunday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center. It's the first home action of the team season for the Spartans.
Wrestling
Michigan State hosts Northwestern Sunday at 2 p.m. on Big Ten Network. All Michigan State wrestling alumni are invited to attend and be recognized as part of Alumni Day.
Women's Golf
Michigan State travels south this weekend for the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande. The tournament runs Sunday through Tuesday.
Men's Golf
Michigan State will host The Gantner Cup on Saturday at Mountain Lake Golf Club in Lake Wales, Florida. It's the first competitive rounds of the spring season for the Spartans.
