No. 13 Michigan State Falls to No. 2 UCLA in Annual Pink Game

EAST LANSING, Mich. – On the annual Pink Game celebrating breast cancer awareness, No. 13 Spartan women's basketball lost to No. 2 UCLA, 86-63 Wednesday at the Breslin Center.
Michigan State falls to 20-5 overall and 9-5 in Big Ten action. The Bruins improve to 24-1 overall and stay perfect in league action with a 14-0 record.
Despite their lowest scoring output of the season, the Spartans had three players in double figures. Junior guard Rashunda Jones led the way with 15 points and three rebounds. Senior guard Emma Shumate scored 12 points off the bench, hitting three 3-pointers. Redshirt-sophomore guard Kennedy Blair scored 10 points with six assists.
UCLA was led 22 points and seven rebounds from Lauren Betts.
Making five-straight baskets, UCLA jumped out to an early 13-5 lead. Both teams hit a cold spell leading into the first media timeout with the Bruins leading 14-7 at the 4:34 mark. A Blair driving layup ended the Spartan drought, but UCLA remained in control, leading 23-9 after the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, UCLA used a 6-0 run to take a 31-11 lead midway through the period. Michigan State continued to struggle from the field, shooting a season-low 22.2 percent from the field. Blair led MSU in scoring in the first half with five points.
The Spartans looked to chisel away at the deficit in the third period. Jones scored six-straight for Michigan State to slow down the Bruins slightly. A 6-0 UCLA run was halted by Inés Sotelo. The quarter ended with the Bruins on top 66-38.
MSU had a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter to make it a 68-44 game, but UCLA continued to find a response. The Spartans used another 6-0 run over the final 32 seconds to make it an 86-63 game. Shumate hit a 3-pointer and after a Jalyn Brown steal, Anna Terrian hit from long range. Michigan State out-scored UCLA 25-20 in the fourth period.
Michigan State now hit the road to take on No. 7 Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
