Women’s Golf Completes First Day at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Battling strong winds throughout two rounds of play on Sunday, Michigan State's women's golf team is in ninth place among 15 teams following the first day of play at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, being played on the Palm Aires Champions Course (par-72, 6,191-yards) in Sarasota, Fla.
The Spartans shot a 20-over par 308 in the opening round and followed it up with a 18-over par 306 in the second round to finish the day at 38-over par 614 (308-306).
Northwestern leads the field at 24-over par 600 (294-306), including a 6-over par 294 in the first round.
Oklahoma is in second place at 26-over par 26-over par 602, with Maryland, Ohio State and Michigan are tied for third place at 31-over par 607. Purdue and Charleston are tied for sixth place at 36-over par 612), with MSU just two shots back.
Senior Paula Balanzategui is in second place individually to lead the Spartans. She fired a 1-under par 71 in the first round and is two shots off the lead at 2-over par 146 (71-75).
Classmate Taylor Kehoe is tied for 26th place at 9-over par 153 (78-75) and freshman Memee Pojanalai is tied for 48th place at 13-over par 157 (79-78).
Junior Ana Sofia Murcia posted a 15-over par 159 (81-78) and is tied for 54th place and sophomore Grace Vetter carded a 16-over par 160 (80-80) and is tied for 59th place.
Senior Shannon Kennedy, playing as an individual, is tied for 34th place at 11-over par 155 (75-80) and freshman Lucia Valderrama, also playing as an individual, is tied for 50th place at 14-over par 158 (79-79).
Michigan State tees off at 8:15 a.m., playing alongside Northwestern and Clemson, starting at the first hole.
