East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State got back on the right side of the ledger on Saturday, taking a 6-0 shutout win over Howard in its first game of the day.

The Spartans (7-5) got a complete game out of sophomore starter Jacey Schuler, who limited Howard to just two base hits, struck out one, and walked one. At the plate, both Britian Beshears and Sophia Grillo had two RBI, while Sydney Doloszycki was the only player in the game to have multiple base hits (2).

Howard falls to 6-6 on the year with the loss.

MSU will have a second Saturday contest, taking on host LSU in the nightcap.

TOP PERFORMANCES

Jacey Schuler allowed just two hits on the afternoon, striking out one and walking two. She faced 24 batters in a full seven innings in her longest outing of the year and fourth career complete game.
Sydney Doloszycki went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Zoie Bernard was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Britain Beshears delivered a two-out, two-RBI single in the second inning and was 1-for-3.
Sophia Grillo had a double that brought home two RBI in the sixth inning.

Jacey Schuler delivered MSU's first complete game and first shutout of the season. She compiled four innings where she sent down the side in order, and never faced more than five batters in any frame. She improved to 3-1 on the year, and the two hits allowed were MSU's fewest in a game against any opponent this season.
Beshears has reached base in every game this season, starting off by drawing a first-inning walk, and added a single and two RBI in MSU's four-run second. She has walked a team-best 15 times this season.
Beshears and Grillo, who each had two RBI today, share the team lead with 10 each.
Hannah Hawley was hit by a pitch twice in the game. She has been hit four times this season, a team high.
Natalia Kenyatta scored twice and was 1-for-2 with a walk. It was her first base hit of the season.
MSU had a pair of stolen bases, matching its season single-game best. MSU also had its third error-less game of the year.
MSU's shutout was its first of the year and the two hits allowed was the lowest against any opponent since the four allowed to BYU in the season opener.

SCORING NUGGETS

Sydney Doloszycki opened the second inning with a leadoff double down the left field line, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Hannah Greer. Natalia Kenyatta then reached base on a walk and stole second to give MSU runners in scoring position with only o out. A wild pitch allowed runners to advance, pushing Doloszycki across for the first run. Zoe Bernard then singled to right field bringing Kenyatta home, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead. A Kendall Smiley single and Hannah Hawley hit-by-pitch loaded the bases again for MSU in the second inning. Following a Howard pitching change, Britain Beshears delivered with a two-RBI single up the middle, pushing the Spartan lead to 4-0.
MSU rallied for two more runs in the fifth inning. Doloszycki drew a one-out walk, stole second, and moved to third on an infield single by Natalia Kenyatta. Pinch hitter Sophia Grillo doubled to center to score both runners.
Schuler retired the side in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to log the complete game.
