EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis dropped a tough and trialing matinee match to Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center in a hard-fought, 4-2, result.
With the loss, MSU slides to 6-3 on the season, with all three losses coming against Ivy League opponents, with Sunday's match being MSU's final non-conference action.
The Spartans kicked off their day with doubles matches, where the home team struggled to find their footing against Dartmouth.
First to finish was the senior/sophomore tandem of Matilde Morais and Nina Plihal, who had difficulty at No. 2 doubles. Facing Dartmouth's Sam Grosjean/Alexandra Orlins, the Spartan pair were unable to secure their match, falling 6-2.
At No. 1 doubles, the redshirt junior/senior pairing of Oriana Parkins-Godwin and Issey Purser were quick to go up 3-1 against the Dartmouth duo of Michela Moore/Peyton Capuano. While the Spartans initially held the lead, they ultimately were overtaken in a 6-4 comeback.
With the doubles point clinched in Dartmouth's favor, sophomore Ellie Blackford and redshirt junior Hanna Tsitavet's match went unfinished standing at 5-4.
Singles matches began shortly after, with the Green & White still fighting to get on the board.

Getting the Spartans on the board was Tsitavets, who at No. 5 singles had a swift 6-1, 6-4 victory against Lauren Han.
Following shortly after was Blackford at No. 2 singles, who fell 6-3, 6-0 to Michela Moore.
With the score at 3-1, the Spartans had their work cut out for them, especially with the final three singles matches all being split sets.
Parkins-Godwin locked down an additional point for MSU, winning in a comeback 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4.
It was a fight to the finish for the final two matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Plihal's match had the Spartan going to great lengths, with the first two sets both going to a tie-break. While Plihal put the work in, her match was lost to Sam Grosjean in a 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 battle.
