MSU Women’s Golf Returns to Briar’s Creek Invitational, First Day of Play Starts on Monday

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team will play in the 13th Annual Briar's Creek Invitational starting on Monday, with the tournament being played at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek in John's Island, S.C.
The Spartans return to the course for the first time since winning the tournament in 2024.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,152-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, March 16 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and the tournament concludes on Tuesday, March 17 (8:45 a.m. shotgun start)

SPARTANS AT THE BRIAR'S CREEK INVITATIONAL
This year will mark the sixth appearance in the Briar's Creek Invitational for the Spartans, who last played in 2024. Michigan State has won the event twice, first in 2019 and then again in 2024. Two years ago, then-juniors Katie Lu and Brooke Biermann tied for first place as the Spartans led from start-to-finish for the team win, shooting a 4-under par 860 (284-282-294). In 2019, finishing with a 54-hole score of 856, the seventh-lowest tournament total in its history. MSU was led by Allyson Geer-Park, who claimed medalist honors with a tournament-best 13-under par 203, a record that still stands.
LAST TIME OUT
Led by senior Paula Balanzategui, Michigan State tied the lowest round of the tournament and surged from ninth place to a fourth-place finish at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational on Feb. 16 … Battling strong winds through the first two rounds of play on Sunday, MSU finished the first day of play in ninth place among 15 teams, but fired a 4-under par 284 in the third round – tied for the tournament best round with champion Northwestern – to finish in fourth place … The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 34-over par 898 (308-306-284) … Balanzategui, who was in second place entering the final round, saved her best for last, firing a 3-under par 69 in the third round to finish as the tournament runner-up at 1-under par 215 (71-75-69) … Her second-place finish is the best of her collegiate career and her 3-under par 69 is tied for the fifth-lowest round of her career … Senior Taylor Kehoe tied for 19th place at 8-over par 224 (78-75-71), closing the tournament out with a 1-under par 71.
