EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team starts postseason play this weekend, teeing off in the first round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday, May 1 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (Witch Hollow) in North Plains, Ore.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament features all 18 Big Ten teams and tees off at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. It is being played on the par-72, 7,015-yard course, where Tiger Woods came from behind to beat Steve Scott for his third-straight US Amateur Championship in 1996. The tournament runs through Sunday, May 3.

The Big Ten Championships field includes all 18 conference teams, with six of those squads ranked among the top-60 in the country in the latest NCAA Golf Rankings. Illinois (12), Indiana (97), Iowa (84), Maryland (98), Michigan (87), Michigan State (74), Minnesota (71), Nebraska (83), Northwestern (48), Ohio State (65), Oregon (62), Penn State (121), Purdue (42), Rutgers (86), UCLA (33), USC (26), Washington (52) and Wisconsin (108).

MICHIGAN STATE IN THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Michigan State has won four Big Ten titles, the last of which came in 2008. MSU won three titles (2005, 2007, 2008) in a span of four years with current head coach Casey Lubahn then serving as an assistant coach. The Spartan also won the league crown in 1969.

Michigan State battled difficult conditions in the final round, posted the third-lowest team score of the day and finished in third place among 18 teams at the Big Ten Championships in Timonium, Md. in April 2024 … The Spartans shot a 10-over par 290 in the final round, tied for the third-lowest team round of the day … Michigan State finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a combined 14-over par 854 (281-283-290) and moved up five places after entering the third round tied for eighth … UCLA came back from a six-shot deficit after Saturday's second round, posted the best team round of the day at 2-over par 282 and topped the field at 2-over par 856 (278-282-282) … Lorenzo Pinili completed a strong weekend of play with a 1-over par 71, despite the challenging conditions … He tied for fifth place at 1-under par 209 (70-68-71) and was just six golfers in the field of 93 to finish under par … By finishing among the top-five individuals, Pinili was selected to the Big Ten Championship All-Tournament Team … Caleb Bond bounced back from a difficult second round on Saturday (6-over par 76) with a 2-under par 68 in Sunday's final round … He finished in 11th place at 1-over par 211 (67-76-68) … Bond's round of 2-under par 68 was tied for the lowest in the entire field on Sunday and was just one of five under-par rounds on the afternoon … Lucas Acevedo finished in a tie for 28th place at 7-over par 217 (71-71-75).
