Dillon Morlock Finishes Fifth in Shot Put to End the Big Ten Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. – On the final day of the B1G Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Dillon Morlock finished fifth in the men's shot put on Sunday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Windy conditions were the main story, affecting many of the field events.
Morlock added to the Spartan point total with a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put. He reached the final with a throw of 19.44m. In the final he couldn't top that but was able to earn four points for Michigan State. He improved on his eighth-place finish last season in Eugene, Oregon.
In the men's pole vault, Sean Mullen fought the conditions to set a season best with a vault of 4.91m.
Olivia Millen was the top finisher for the Spartans in the 5000m. She finished 18th, crossing the line in 17:29.50.
In the final distance race of the meet, Michigan State had a pair of Spartans finish in the top 15 in the men's 5000m. After finishing fourth in the 10,000m on Friday, Riley Hough finished ninth with a time of 14:19.88. Â In his first Big Ten Outdoor Championship, Thomas Westphal finished 13th in 14:26.63.
In the men's high jump, Brady Schultz finished tied for 12th. He was able to clear 2.09m but could not clear 2.12m.
After racing for the third-straight day, Kate Stewart-Barnett finished ninth in the 1500m with a time of 4:25.86. She was just shy of earning points for the Spartans. Oregon's Juliet Cherubet finished first in 4:16.53.
Oregon swept both the men's and women's titles. The Spartan men finished 15th with 15 points, while the MSU women were 14th with 19 points.
Michigan State will head next to Lexington, Kentucky on May 27-May 30 for the NCAA First Round.
