Michigan State’s 2026 Season Opener Against Toledo Moved to Friday, Sept. 4; Spartans Will Host Oregon on Friday, Nov. 20

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State football will play two Friday night games during the 2026 season in Spartan Stadium.
The Spartans have announced that the season and home opener against Toledo has been moved up a day to Friday, Sept. 4. The game time and TV network will be released later this month.
This marks the 12th time in the past 16 years that Michigan State will open with a Friday night game in East Lansing; it's also the 14th time since 2011 that MSU will begin the season on a Friday night. The Spartans are 11-0 in their previous home Friday night games to start the season and 13-0 overall in their Friday night season openers during that time span (since 2011).
FOX Sports also announced that Michigan State's game against Oregon will be played on Friday, Nov. 20 as part of its FOX College Football Friday schedule. The game will be televised on FOX at 8 p.m.
Michigan State-Toledo Series Notes
The Spartans beat the Rockets, 58-0, on Oct. 25, 1925, in East Lansing in the only other matchup between the two schools.
Michigan State-Oregon Series Notes
The last time Michigan State hosted Oregon in Spartan Stadium, it was a clash of Top-10 teams on Sept. 12, 2015, with the No. 5 Spartans beating the No. 7 Ducks, 31-28, en route to an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
The Spartans are 3-0 against the Ducks in East Lansing. In addition to the 2015 win, MSU beat Oregon, 41-17, in 1979 and 27-20 in 1999.
Oregon leads the overall series, 5-3. The Ducks won the last matchup in 2024 in Eugene, the first meeting between the two schools as Big Ten members.
