Former Spartan linebacker Antjuan Simmons was named Michigan State's assistant defensive line coach in January 2025.
Simmons spent the previous two seasons as a graduate student coach on defense for the Spartans, working with the linebackers in 2023 and the defensive line in 2024.
A four-year letterwinner (2017-20) for the Spartans, Simmons had 231 tackles in 46 games, including 20 consecutive starts at linebacker to close out his career (13 in 2019; seven in 2020). He finished his career ranked 26th in school history with 26 tackles for loss and 44th with 231 tackles. He also recorded 4.5 sacks, five pass break-ups, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in his career.
As a senior in 2020, Simmons was named second-team All-Big Ten by the media after averaging a team-best 10.7 tackles per game (75 overall), which ranked second best in the Big Ten. He had 13 tackles, including two for losses and a 4-yard sack, in the win over No. 8 Northwestern on Nov. 28 to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Simmons earned honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades and was named one of the team’s Most Outstanding Underclassmen as a junior in 2019 after recording a career-high 90 tackles, which led the team and ranked sixth in the Big Ten.
After graduating from Michigan State in May 2021 with a degree in human development and family studies, Simmons entered the high school coaching ranks at his alma mater, Ann Arbor Pioneer, as a linebackers coach for the Pioneers.
