Former Spartan safety Jairus Jones is in his first season as a defensive graduate assistant at Michigan State. Jones will primarily be working with the defensive backs.
Jones previously spent two years working as an intern in the recruiting department for the Spartans and one year as the defensive intern.
A four-year letterwinner (2010-13) under Mark Dantonio, Jones recorded 58 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 29 career games, including seven starts. In the 2013 season opener against Western Michigan, Jones had a career-high two interceptions. He played safety his first three seasons before making the transition to weakside linebacker as a senior.
Jones was a member of the 2013 senior class that went 42-12 during his four years and won two Big Ten Championships (2010, 2013).
A native of Tampa, Florida, Jones graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in social science from Michigan State in 2014. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in kinesiology.
