Travis Russell is in his first year at Michigan State in 2026 as an assistant quarterbacks coach, working under John McNulty.
A three-year letterwinner (2016-18) as a quarterback at Ferris State, Russell helped the Bulldogs to the Division II quarterfinals in 2017, throwing for 1,242 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games while splitting time at QB. Overall, he played in 29 games for the Bulldogs and threw for 1,555 yards and 11 TDs.
Following his collegiate playing career at FSU, Russell first coached quarterbacks at Grand Rapids Union High School in 2020 before returning to his alma mater in Big Rapids as the slot receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in 2021. He spent three seasons as an offensive graduate assistant and analyst at UMass from 2022-24 prior to coaching at Michigan in 2025 as a quarterback assistant.
Russell was a three-year starting quarterback and two-time all-state honoree at West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He guided the Falcons to back-to-back MHSAA Division 5 state championships (2014-15) and completed 546-of-985 passes for 7,634 yards and 80 TDs in his high school career, while also rushing for 2,226 yards and 32 TDs.
