Ben Mathers, who is in his 12th year overall on the Spartan football staff, was promoted to Director of Football Operations in 2022. He spent the previous two seasons (2020-21) as the assistant director of football operations after rejoining the program in 2019 as the creative director and the assistant director of coaching technology.
Prior to his return to MSU, Mathers spent the previous four seasons (2014-2018) as the director of football operations at the University of Pittsburgh. Mathers handled daily planning for the Panthers, along with managing the video and equipment staff.
In his previous roles with Spartan football, Mathers was a defensive student aide from 2008-2011, an operations intern from 2012-2013, and an operations assistant in 2014.
A 2012 Michigan State graduate, Mathers earned his bachelor’s degree in communications.
