Khalif directs the recruiting efforts for the Spartans, developing and implementing strategic plans while supervising the recruiting staff. He oversees and manages prospect identification and evaluations and works with the assistant coaches to identify prospective student-athletes.
In addition, Khalif coordinates the evaluation of all current players on the active roster, providing detailed reports to the coaching staff. He also runs the NFL Education Program and annual Spartan Pro Day.
Khalif made an immediate impact in his first year in East Lansing, as the Spartans landed a consensus Top 25 recruiting class (No. 15 ESPN, No. 23 Rivals, No. 25 247Sports). The No. 23 247Sports team composite recruiting ranking for the Class of 2022 was the highest for the Spartans in six years.
Khalif has previous experience in the Big Ten, as he spent four seasons (2017-20) as the Director of Player Personnel at Wisconsin. While with the Badgers, UW’s recruiting classes rose in the 247Sports composite rankings every year, including No. 16 in 2021, the highest finish for the program since the 247 Sports team composite rankings started in 2000. Wisconsin also finished No. 15 in the 2021 Rivals team rankings, the best ever for the Badgers, dating back to 2002.
Khalif arrived in Wisconsin following four seasons (2013-16) as the assistant director of player personnel at his alma mater, Georgia Tech. He previously spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Savannah State.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Khalif served as head coach at Central High School in Newark, New Jersey, following stints as defensive coordinator at Redan High School and Decatur High School in Georgia.
A standout defensive lineman at Georgia Tech from 1984-86, Khalif was named first-team All-ACC and honorable mention All-America as a senior. He also served as team captain and was named the Yellow Jackets’ defensive MVP in his final season after leading the team in tackles. He went on to sign as a free agent with the Denver Broncos.
Khalif earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech in 1988.
