Prior to MSU: Played for the Soo Thunderbirds of the NOJHL for most of the last two seasons ... Began the 2007-08 season in Columbus (USHL), but returned to the Thunderbirds ... 2006-07 NOJHL Rookie of the Year and top goal scorer ... Appeared in 16 games in 2007-08, where he scored 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 16 games (12 PIM) ... Six of his goals were on the power play, and four were game-winners ... Had a 38-20-58 scoring line (48 GP) in 2006-07 ... Previously played for the Soo Greyhounds, where he had a a 30-37-67 scoring line in 2004-05 ... Attended St. Mary[apos]s College, where he captained the boy[apos]s soccer team in 2008 and helped the squad to a runner-up finish in the city championship and was voted Best Forward ... A member of the Academic Honor Roll.

Grandfather, Fred Sr., also played professional hockey and attended the Detroit Red Wings training camp at age 15 ... Cousin, Kevin Conway, is a 20-year pro and is in the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame ... Hobbies include golf, tennis, and soccer ... Favorite NHL team: Detroit Red Wings ... Favorite NHL player: Henrik Zetterberg, for the way he competes and hustles both on and off the puck ... Says his parents are his biggest hockey influences, 'My dad played at the pro level and knows what it takes, and both my parent[apos]s positive influence has gotten me where I am today.' ...
