Daniel Sager is in his eighth year as an academic coordinator and his 13th year overall with Michigan State Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS). He is in his third year working directly with the football program, in addition to working with men’s tennis, rowing, gymnastics and women’s soccer.
Prior to becoming an academic coordinator with SASS, he previously was a learning specialist/tutorial coordinator for one year, a graduate assistant for two years, a student assistant for two years, and a tutor for one year.
Sager managed and oversaw the SASS Tutorial program from 2014-2019. He has also been a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) for six years, attending various conferences on the regional and national level. In June 2019, Sager graduated from the N4A Professional Development Institute (PDI) track for New Practitioners.
In addition to his work with SASS, Sager is highly involved in the East Lansing and Lansing Communities, having worked as an SAT math tutor for high school student-athletes as a part of APEX Academy Lansing, and a goalie coach for youth hockey teams in East Lansing.
Sager earned his master’s degree from Michigan State in sports administration, as well as his undergraduate degree in education with a concentration in mathematics. While working on his undergraduate degree, Sager was a member of the MSU ACHA Men’s Division II club hockey team during his freshman and sophomore year while the team finished as a national semifinalist and finalist in that two-year span. During his senior year, Danny was nominated for the Michigan State University student employee of the year award for his work as a student assistant with Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS).
