Mitchell Moorer
- Title:
- Executive Senior Associate AD/Student-Athlete Management and Administration
With experience as a sports agent, corporate attorney and in the NFL, Mitchell Moorer has been appointed Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Management and Administration, Michigan State University Vice President and Director of Athletics J Batt announced on Aug. 20, 2025.
Moorer will advise AD Batt and athletics leadership on legal matters pertaining to the department. He will be responsible for drafting, negotiating and managing contracts for MSU athletics, including but not limited to contracts related to name, image and likeness (NIL) licensing agreements, employee contracts, sponsorship agreements, commercial partnerships, and media rights. Equally important, he will oversee the strategy, assignment and distribution of institutional benefits provided to student-athletes under the terms of the House v. NCAA settlement. He's expected to work collaboratively with MSU coaches, administrators and student-athletes to understand their needs and provide effective contract solutions, while also ensuring compliance with recent legal rulings and NCAA, College Sports Commission (CSC) and Big Ten Conference regulations.
"Adding Mitchell Moorer to our leadership team significantly strengthens our department," said Batt. "This is an important hire as we continue to navigate college athletics in the post-House settlement era.
"Mitchell has extensive experience working with contracts, on all sides – both serving his clients as well as teams and the NFL. His knowledge of and expertise navigating the NFL salary cap is a skill that will translate well to helping the department implement revenue sharing. His addition better allows MSU to maximize opportunities for our student-athletes, while also positioning our programs for championship success."
Most recently, Moorer served as Vice President at SportsTrust Advisors where he negotiated more than $1.3 billion in NFL contracts as an NFLPA certified agent. He personally developed strategic databases and key information tracking to benefit the firm and his clients. He ensured firm compliance with NFL, NFLPA, and NCAA rules, regulations and procedures. Moorer strategically evaluated college players, recruited them, and then negotiated, reviewed, and revised client-NFL team contracts, client marketing agreements, and NIL agreements. Beyond the numbers, Moorer was committed to building strong relationships, both with his clients, as well as key contacts on both the NFL and NCAA side.
"I am extremely honored and excited to join the Michigan State athletics department," said Moorer. "I would like to thank J Batt for the opportunity to join such a distinguished university and help guide Spartan athletics through the evolving landscape of intercollegiate sports. J has a clear vision for sustained success at MSU and I look forward to working alongside Michigan State administrators, coaches, and student-athletes to help put every Spartan program in the best position possible to win championships. Michigan State athletics has a renowned history and an even brighter future - I am thrilled to be joining the Spartan Family."
Prior to beginning at SportsTrust, Moorer was an associate attorney at Manier & Herod, focusing on business and corporate law. Moorer has experience on the team side, working as a Salary Cap and Legal Analyst for the Philadelphia Eagles. He has additional experience in the business of sports, including time as Management Council Law Clerk for the NFL, and additional stints with the Southeastern Conference, the Atlanta Falcons and the Cleveland Browns among his varied experiences.
"Mitchell's background as an agent, experience on the NFL team-side, and work as an attorney make him an ideal fit for Michigan State as Executive Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Management and Administration," said Dave Gardi, Washington Commanders Senior Vice President of Football Initiatives. "I have followed Mitchell's career closely working in NFL player representation after working directly with him when he served in a critical role as a law clerk in the NFL league office. Mitchell is an elite problem solver and creative thinker. His skills as a negotiator and legal contractual background will serve Michigan State athletics well in this new era of college sports."
Moorer was a college student-athlete earning four letters in both football and track and field at Sewanee. He would go on to earn a law degree and MBA at the University of Alabama.
