NOTES
* Michigan State extended its winning streak to seven games. The Spartans would equal their best-ever CCHA start (8-0, 1986-87) with a win tomorrow night against UAF.
* The Spartans have given up two goals in their last five games combined.
* Michigan State has scored the first goal of the game in each of the last seven games. Five of the last six games the Spartans have scored the first goal of the game on the power play.
* Damon Whitten extended his goal-scoring streak to three games and his point-scoring streak to four games.
* John Nail scored his first goal since Nov. 29, 1998 at Minnesota. He had gone 36 games without a goal.
* Junior defenseman Brody Brandstatter had no goals in his first 50 career games. He has a goal in each of his last two games.
* Senior center and team captain Shawn Horcoff extended his point-scoring streak to seven games (all victories). His career-best point-scoring streak is eight games (Jan. 3-29, 1999).
* Sophomore defenseman Jon Insana left the game late in the first period with a cut on his chin. He returned for the start of the third period, but left again with 17 seconds remaining after blocking a shot.
* Freshman defenseman Brad Fast of Fort St. John, B.C., is playing this weekend closer to home than he will be the rest of the season. He had his second goal of the year early in the third period.
* Sophomore right wing Adam Hall has seven goals in the last seven games and has 13 goals in his last 13 games dating back to last season.
