Notes:
* MSU has won all 17 of its home first-round series since joining the CCHA in 1981-82.
* FR C Troy Ferguson's two short-handed goals are a single-game CCHA Tournament record. The last time MSU had more than one SHG in a game was Jan. 3, 1999, at Alaska Fairbanks, when Rustyn Dolyny had two and Shawn Horcoff had one.
* JR LW Sean Patchell scored MSU's first goal of the game for the second straight game. He has 2-1-3 in the last two games.
* MSU scored the first goal of the game for the first time in five games.
* The crowd of 5,413 is the smallest at Munn since March 10, 1996, when 5,146 saw a 3-1 MSU win over Ferris State in the CCHA Tournament. Because it is the postseason, the crowd does not affect MSU's 253-game regular-season sellout streak.
* MSU has now scored at least one power-play goal in each of its last 12 games, its longest streak since a 24-game stretch from Nov. 23, 1991, to Feb. 22, 1992. MSU has scored at least three power-play goals in a game seven times this year, including each of the last two games. MSU scored its first 4-on-3 PPG of the year. Entering the game, Miami had killed off MSU's last nine PP chances against the RedHawks, since Nov. 19, 1999.
* SO D Andrew Hutchinson has 10 of his 11 points since Christmas. He and FR C Troy Ferguson are the 11th and 12th Spartans to reach double-figures in points this season, passing last year's total of 11 players with 10 or more points.
* MSU's six goals were its most since Dec. 29 against Michigan Tech and its most in a CCHA Tournament game since March 10, 1995, when it beat Illinois-Chicago, 6-4.
* SR C Shawn Horcoff surpassed CCHA commissioner Tom Anastos on the MSU all-time scoring list with his 144th career point. Horcoff has a seven-game point-scoring streak (1-10-11 in that time). He has 46 assists on the year, leading the nation and equaling the most at MSU in the last eight years.
