EAST LANSING, Mich. - With the outdoor hockey game at Spartan Stadium only five days away, Michigan State junior defenseman John-Michael Liles takes some time to share his thoughts leading up to the Spartans' regular-season opener. Liles returns to the Spartan blue line after recording 7-18-25 totals in 42 games last season. This is the first diary entry. Liles will continue to report back on what he is thinking heading into Saturday's game.
On October 1, 2001, Liles writes:
I think I am even more excited now than I was when I first heard about it. It's just a few days around the corner. On my way to class tonight, after practice, I walked by the football stadium and went through the tunnel to see the rink. Obviously, it's very exciting. It's a great atmosphere around campus and the team. It's really hard not to think about it.
We are preparing for Saturday's game like any other regular-season game against Michigan. It's just another game. The atmosphere will be a little different but we're preparing for it like we have in year's past.
Today's practice wasn't as hard with it only being Monday and the game is Saturday. Today was a big systems day. We went over a lot of systems with the freshmen. We went over the mistakes we made against Queens University, since we wouldn't be able to get away with those against Michigan.
