MSU Hockey Remains Atop National Polls

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State hockey team strengthened its hold on the top spot in this week's national polls, released Monday (Oct. 15).
The Spartans, coming off series sweep of Lake Superior State at Munn Ice Arena, grabbed 16 of 19 first-place votes and 277 total points in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll. Minnesota maintained its second-place position with 261 points and three first-place mentions. North Dakota climbed from fifth to third with St. Cloud State and Michigan rounding out the top five Other Central Collegiate Hockey Association schools in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll are Nebraska-Omaha (12th), Ohio State, Alaska Fairbanks and Miami (all receiving votes).
MSU captured 31 of 40 first-place tallies in the latest U.S. College Hockey.com poll. The Spartans are followed North Dakota, Minnesota, St. Cloud State and Michigan. Other CCHA teams in the USCHO rankings are Nebraska-Omaha (15th), Northen Michigan, Alaska Fairbanks, Ohio State and Western Michigan (all receiving votes).
The Spartans are also ranked first in the Sporting News Power Poll. Minnestoa, North Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha and Michigan round out the top five. Ohio State is the only other CCHA school mentioned in the Sporting News rankings.
MSU returns to action this weekend with a single game vs. Ferris State at Munn Ice Arena on Saturday, Oct. 20. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
